Our Activities

The Etherow Centre Charitable Trust does not directly provide services to the community instead it maintains the building allowing various organisations to operate. Currently Tameside School of Gymnastics is based in the upper floor and the Kingfisher Riding for the Disabled Group uses the ground floor.

Kingfisher Riding for the Disabled Group

Founded in 1986 Kingfisher Riding for the Disabled Group provides riding and horse care lessons to disabled adults and children aged five and upwards. Kingfisher Riding for the Disabled Group currently has six horses and ponies and more than fifty people visit it each week for riding lessons, which is a proven alternative form of physiotherapy for the disabled with many therapeutic and recreational benefits. Kingfisher is a registered charity and member of the Riding for the Disabled Association.

Etherow Bowling and Activity Centre

Since Tameside School of Gymnastics moved to Pinfold in Hattersley the upper floor of the Etherow Centre has been modified to provide a home for indoor bowling and other community activities. The new Etherow Bowling and Activity Centre, run by Tameside Sports Trust, opened on Friday 4th December 2009. It features an indoor bowling green built to national league standard, giving the residents of Tameside the opportunity to play at the highest level all year round. The upper floor will also offer a variety of other leisure and sporting activities to the community.

Tameside School of Gymnastics

Tameside School of Gymnastics was situated on the upper floor of the Etherow Centre and offers gymnastics lessons to the community both able bodied and disabled. It is operated by Tameside Sports Trust and has in the past both national and international success with gymnasts who have trained there. Tameside School of Gymnastics moved to a newly built sporting facility at Pinfold in Hattersley in the autumn of 2009.
